Mallory Bike Bonanza (30-31st July 2016)
We are great fans of Mallory Park and have really enjoyed the past Mallory Bike Bonanzas; however 2016 will be rather exceptional at this “Friendly Circuit”, as Mallory will celebrate a very special milestone in its history, its 60th anniversary. So we all wish them every success.
This annual event, now in its third year will be held at this famous Midlands circuit over the weekend of the 30th and 31st of July 2016, organised by the circuits management team Real Motorsport Limited, it promises an array of interesting bikes and sidecar outfits that will be seen taking to the track in parades throughout the weekend. Saturday is all about PR5* road machines, whilst Sunday focuses on PR6* race machines, and the highly anticipated Mallory Masters parade.(* See notes below).
Michael Dunlop is the first named star to ride at the Mallory Bike Bonanza. The Ballymoney rider and titleholder of the second fastest lap around the Isle of Man TT is the first announcement of many ahead of the July event, with more names from the hotly anticipated star line up due to be added. The 11 times TT race winner will take to the track in the Mallory Masters parade on an MV Agusta 500 Three, (the machine famously rode by Giacomo Agostini), and now owned by John Chapman of Lincolnshire. Michael will also make guest appearances throughout the weekend.
Away from the track, the Owd Codgers Motorcycle Club www.owdcodgersmcc.co.uk has confirmed their return to hold a Classic Charity Trial on Saturday with proceeds to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. The trial will once again take place on the former Moto-x course, with entries limited to 50 riders; it is expected to fill up fast! For applications please visit www.owdcodgersmcc.co.uk or www.malloryparkcircuit.com/classic-trial
In addition to the track and trial activities, there will be lots more to keep you entertained during the weekend, including Club Central displays, trade stalls, live music, autograph sessions, licensed bar and an open paddock to get up close with the riders and their machines.
Natalie Hansard, for Real Motorsport Limited says: “We are delighted that the Bike Bonanza is now a solid fixture on the circuit calendar, albeit slightly later in July than originally planned due to clashes with other National and International events. Mallory Park turns 60 in 2016, and what better way to celebrate than with the Bonanza! We want the Bonanza to be a real celebration of everything that Mallory Park has achieved over the past 60 years, but also to demonstrate what it has to offer in the future.”
Mallory have always supported good causes and no doubt 2016 will be no exception, our good friends Colin & Eva Seeley will be on hand to continue their fund raising for the JSPRMT this year to enable the Trust to support the Air Ambulance as well as their chosen Hospice and Talan will be there as well (see our articles in Charity Work).
Johns Motorcycle News hope to be there and to be able to assist them both in their fund raising efforts.
As usual our good friend, Geoff Cox (ERIKS E Commerce Commercial Manager) will be lending their continued support of the Bonanza, as they have done for many years now and they will once again be supporting the JSPRMT and Talan of “The Bike Experience” (again see details within our Charity Work section).
However, not only is this a very important milestone year for Mallory Park, but 2016 will also be a very important year for the Cox family as they will have 3 generations riding together on this wonderful circuit.
The Cox family will be riding alongside each other in the PR5 parade, no doubt beaming from ear to ear and as proud as punch will be, Geoff, riding his 1988 Bimota YB6 1000cc, his dad, Dave, riding a 1988 Kawasaki GPX750R and Geoff’s son Charlie, riding 1992 Honda NC39 400cc. I know how proud I am to be able to ride with my own son, but my dads a non starter, (at age 94, he last rode a bike in the 1950’s), anyway our sincere best wishes go to all of the Cox family for a good safe 3 generation parade – what more could a man ask for? Happy days.
